Sia – Big Girls Cry Promo Single Review

Standard

Sia is soon to release her new album 1000 Forms of Fear, so now she releases her second promo single and fourth song from the album. This song in comparison to Chandelier is much less pop and more her old style. The vocals are not as strong, and yet they sound as beautiful. The lyrics are quite relatable and different to Chandelier’s, and the instrumental in general is more calm and organic than the lead single. Score: 8/10 just because the song can be weak to the ear at first because it partially lacks of an earworm.

Go – Grimes ft. Blood Diamonds

Standard

Perhaps one of the most exciting comebacks this year, Grimes finally releases the song I have been waiting for since gov ball she wrote for Rihanna. ‘Go’ was supposed to be for Rihanna by Grimes, but it got rejected and Grimes kept it. With a mix of trap and pop this song is very catchy with an excellent production. The only reason why I’ll give it an 8/10 is because it is not something we would expect from Grimes, for it is not her style but something more inclined to mainstream music. Nevertheless the song is amazing and it is Claire’s vocals that make it so. I highly recommend you to click the link below of the song in her souncloud and download it for free from there:

Walk This Way – MØ (Music Video)

Video

Three months after her debut album (No Mythologies To Follow) release, Karen releases the video for one of the most energetic songs from the album. It is not one of my favorites simply because the whole album is too good to have stand out songs. Anyway, the video is very accurate in representing the song itself with sassy cheerleaders and medals. I recommend the song with a score of 7/10 (it is a ” good” song).

Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence (Album Review)

Standard

I know the album is not released yet, but I got to listen to it today (even though I’m not the only one). Because of proffessional purposes I will not give away the source where I was able to listen to the album; however, I will review it now:

Tracklist:

01- Cruel World
02- Ultraviolence
03- Shades of Cool
04- Brooklyn Baby
05- West Coast
06- Sad Girl
07- Pretty When You Cry
08- Money Power
09- Fucked My Way Up To The Top
10- Old Money
11- The Other Woman
12- Black Beauty
13- Guns And Roses
14- Florida Kilos

01- Cruel World – (8/10)

The start of the first song of the album already indicates that Lana’s sound has changed little or nothing. However, as the song advances into the chorus it gets more interesting. The whole song is as if Lana would get a country ballad and add it her touch. My favorite part of the song would be the chorus because of her singing style being different than in other songs during this part of the song. It is a good song, but it also has its downs. Because of it still being very similar to her previous works it does get kind of boring before the last chorus, but if you’re used to it I’d say you will love it. A ‘very good’ song.

02- Ultraviolence – (8/10)

One of my favorites from the album, I guess that’s why she released it as the second single. A ”very good” song once again, ultraviolence’s instrumental is pretty good. The chorus is one of Lana’s catchiest.

03- Shades of Cool – (6/10)

In my opinion it is not the best from the album. It has a James Bond-ish style to it, making it kind of unique but at the same time cliche? I don’t think that made sense, but that’s how I feel. The intense bridge is what made it get a 6/10 instead of a 5/10, it just makes the song more interesting.

04- Brooklyn Baby – (5/10)

A fan-favorite, and I don’t know why. Either way, I just think it’s too cheesy and slow. Just a boring average song.

05- West Coast – (8.5/10)

This song is similar to ”Cruel World” because its style is actually different from the rest of the album. The instrumental actually reflects a coast-ish tropical mood. My favorite song from the album, and I guess the most commercial one. The beat and chorus are killer (to be a Lana Del Rey song). An ”almost ‘almost excellent’ ” song.

06- Sad Girl – (4/10)

Boring song, but I bet anyone can get through the song. I guess if you’re depressed this will not be as boring. It is quite slow and sad, but not enough to make you want to kill yourself so don’t get alarmed. It perfectly would fit other two albums.

07- Pretty When You Cry – (4/10)

A ”below average” boring song from Lana. I must, however, give credits to her for keeping her style the same, that must definitely not be difficult. In all seriousness, the only part I like from this song is the last chorus’s dramatic vocals and guitar.

08- Money Power Glory – (7/10)

Interesting start, especially since it FINALLY is a song with clear vocals. The chorus ispretty good (the vocals are killer), even though it is overall not her best work, especially because ”Cruel World” overshadows this one. It again, falls flat by the middle of the song, but at the end it (partially) gets back on the ”good” side of the song.

09- Fucked My Way Up To The Top – (5/10)

I would rather imagine a more agressive beggining for a song with such title, but it is rather interestingly calm. Still the typical Lana Del Rey. Not the best song as many predicted it would be. I would even say that the song before it is better. I guess the title made me expect a screamo Lana, or at least a bitchy Lana. Just an ”average” song.

10- Old Money – (4/10)

Slow start, slow progression, slow chorus. This simply is another emotional ballad from Lana. Lana must learn that the addition of violins to a piano ballad will not make it an better song. Definitely boring.

11- The Other Woman – (2/10)

At this point of the album I’m already very bored, so it will be hard to please me, especially with songs like this.

12- Black Beauty – (4/10)

This is definitely better than the previous track. The start is once again boring, but the chorus brings some intensity to the song. I guess that’s the only good part of the song.

13- Guns And Roses – (2/10)

Only three words necessary to describe this song: bad and boring.

14- Florida Kilos – (7/10)

Last song, and it actually is not boring. It is different to the others bringing pain relief to my ears. The instrumental is different and likeable. I’m going to rate it as a ”good song”.

Overall Score – 5/10

An ”average” which I personally do not recommend you to listen to with the exceptions of a few songs. Lana’s style get boring after a while and you end up with a numb feeling after you finish listening to the whole thing.

La Roux’s Newest Dancer: Tropical Chancer

Standard

Apparently I’ve been really distracted this week music-wise. I don’t exactly know when, but La Roux released a new song called ”Tropical Chancer”, whcich to me is like a word play with tropical cancer. Anyway, I must say that I really like the song, not her best, bot it is good. I give it a 8/10 score. She can do better than that. I really like the tropical mood of the song tho. Moving on, I must now tell you that you can listen to this brand new song below:

Donker Mag – Die Antwoord (Album Review)

Standard

Die Antwoord’s third album came out about six days ago, and even though I’m a little late I’ll make a review simply because some of the songs are amazing, while other cannot even be considered songs. Not that some songs are unbearable or anything, but they are kind of interludes that both serve the purpose of introducing the upcoming songs and filling up space to make the album last longer. Anyway, let’s move on to the actual review:

Tracklist:

01- Dont Fuk Me
02- Ugly Boy
03- Happy Go Sucky Fucky
04- Zars
05- Raging Zef Boner
06- Pompie
07- Cookie Thumper!
08- Girl I Want 2 Eat U
09- Pitbull Terrier
10- Strunk
11- Do Not Fuk Wif Da Kid
12- Rap Trap 666
13- I Dont Dwank
14- Sex
15- Moon Love
16- Donker Mag

01- Dont Fuk Me – (-/10)

Just a 28-second interlude so I won’t consider it a song. I won’t give it a defined score either…

02- Ugly Boy – (7/10)

If you like rap, then this is a perfect song to you. This is what I would call good quality rap being honest. I know the lyrics are not the best, but at least it seems  as if they put effort into the instrumental. However, it is definitely not the strongest song on the whole album.

03- Happy Go Sucky Fucky – (9/10)

One of the best songs on the album. The production makes it a very good rave song. It’s very energetic and just ahh. Yo Landi’s vocals are very euphoric making you wanna scream too. I love it! If you like EDM combined with rap then you should look it up on spotify and listen to it, maybe even download it.

04- Zars – (-/10)

Another interlude. It practically is Ninja introducing listeners to the languages and accents he uses, and when he uses them. Again, no score for it because it’s not a song.

05- Ragin Zef Boner – (7/10)

Kind of catchy, the chorus is pretty good. It is dark and a little agressive, like most rap. Main vocalist is ninja. My favorite genre is not rap, so this song definitely is not my jam. However, it is a song I could get used to.

06- Pompie – (-/10)

Not a song, an interlude. If it was a song I would give it a negative score because it is just damn annoying! It’s just laughter of [Pompie?] the whole time.

07- Cookie Thumper! (8/10)

I hated this song when I first heard it in May, but I came back to it when the album came out and I like it now. The instrumental is just epic, and I have always liked Yo Landi’s vocals. This is probably one of the most energetic songs of the album too. For me it is one of its own kind.

06- Girl I Want 2 Eat U (9/10)

One of the catchiest from the album definitely! Its reggae influences are pretty obvious, and it pretty much has an earworm to it. The beat makes you wanna dance. Once you listen to it you will have it stuck in your head the rest of the day.

07- Pitbull Terrier (9/10)

This song was released not long ago along with the video. I just love the imagery which is very theatrical/creepy/weird. I think this song reflects what Die Antwoord is like. The beat of it is sick. The whole instrumental is straightfoward true rave music.

10- Strunk (2/10)

Kind of slow and not common coming from them. The most boring song in the album. Not really my taste. Love lyrics make me sick in songs so slow like these; this is definitely not for me.

11- Do Not Fuk Wif Da Kid (-/10)

Interlude. If I were to review it would get a high score simply because I love Yo Landi’s attitude in this one.

12- Rap Trap 666 (3/10)

Creepy start. Cool beat and bass. Too repetitive for it’s length. I’m gonna give it a score similar to the onenumber in it’s title. Nevermind, it doesn’t deserve that.

13- I Dont Dwank (6/10)

It starts pretty lame, but when the music kicks in it gets interesting. It is a pretty good song, but half of the song is DJ Hi-Tek, Ninja, and Yo-Landi talking.

14- Sex (10/10)

THIS SONG IS SEX! You know I’ve never given a 10/10 to a song since I opened the blog, therefore the perfect score of this song indicates that this is the ideal rave song. It is the best of Die Antwoord I’ve ever hear. I really find no errors in this song. The chorus, the beat/instrumental, Yo Landi’s voice are perfect, but most importantly Ninja’s rapping is so different in this track. He sounds tender and calm, just perfectly portraying the song’s title. Yo Landi’s moans are hilarious and I just love them. Definitely my favorite song from Die Antwoord’s whole discography. I don’t personally think they could ever top this song, not because they are not good, but beacuse this song is way too good. It has no video but I still want you to listen to this perfect song, so right below this is a youtube link to the song:

15- Moon Love (5/10)

Cute dialogue song. Sixteen (Ninja and Yo Landi’s daughter) speaks in this song. The ending music is however too cheesy. This is kind of an interlude as well.

16- Donker Mag (6/10)

Outro? Well, at the end it kind of has a song part. I like the ending part so I’ll give it a score.

Overall Review – 6.5/10

The overall score actually was 6.75, but I rounded it to 6.5 because most one fourth of the album consists of interludes and two of the songs are a hybrid (a combination of an interlude and a song).

This is the lowest overall score I’ve given to an album in my blog so far, and ironically it contains the only song I’ve given a perfect score to (10/10). I guess it has songs that either really suck or that you really love. A 6.5 score in my blog means it is an above average score (an average score is 5), so i cannot say it is a good or a bad album, just an above average album. I guess I recommend it if you have nothing else to listen to, but I’ll make an exception for the song ”Sex”, which I highly recommend to be listened to as soon as possible because it is amazing.

Lana Del Rey – Ultraviolence (Single)

Standard

Lana Del Rey’s second single for her upcoming album is the title track ‘Ultraviolence. I usually take long in getting used to her music, so expect me to like it more in a couple of days. As of now all I have to say about it is that even though its verses are boring and the bridge is annoying, the chorus(es) of the song is pretty much celestial. I am going to give it a 7/10, and I do recommend you to go ahead and listen to it right below:

Electra Heart (Teddy Killerz Remix)

Standard

Today Betatraxx released the last remix of Electra Heart by Teddy Killerz. Not something amazing, but good enough to earn a 6/10. I like how they kept the original concept, but as the song further develops it becomes overwhelming (overproduced). Anyway, if you want to listen to it click on the link right below:
